CHICAGO — A 20-year-old died late Friday after being shot earlier in the day.
Andres Avitia, 20, of the 4100 block of West 77th Place in West Lawn, was pronounced dead at 10:17 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center, according to authorities.
Avitia was riding in a vehicle near the intersection of 77th Street and Pulaski Road at about 1:30 a.m. Friday when a van pulled up alongside him and a gunman fired shots, striking Avitia in his head and left shoulder, police said.
The shooting appears to be have been gang related, police said, and not other injuries were reported.
