COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Far South Side man was arrested Friday, nearly six months after a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at gunpoint, police said.
Dantrell D Sawyer, 20, is accused of assaulting the teen on Aug. 29 in the 13000 block of South Daniel Drive, arrest documents show. The girl, from suburban Dolton, was 14 at the time, according to prosecutors and police documents.
Sawyer walked up to the girl near 130th Street and South Indiana Avenue and asked to use her cellphone and she let him, prosecutors said Sunday.
Prosecutors said the girl then went with Sawyer to the nearby South Daniel Drive complex. Sawyer led her to a laundry room in the building and turned off the lights, prosecutors said.
Sawyer told the girl, "I got a gun. You better not say anything. If you do, I'm gonna shoot you," according to court documents.
He raped her and forced her to perform oral sex, according to court documents.
The teen got dressed after he left the room, and when Sawyer returned, he told her not to call police, prosecutors said.
After the girl managed to leave, she went with a relative to Roseland Hospital, prosecutors said. She suffered blunt-force injuries, court documents show.
Sawyer was the subject of an investigative alert, according to arrest documents. A computer check of Sawyer revealed an outstanding warrant issued in October from Rock Island, according to his arrest report. Sawyer was arrested in his home Friday afternoon after the victim identified him, police documents show.
Sawyer, of the 13300 block of South Corliss Avenue in Altgeld Gardens, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault with a firearm, according to court documents.
His bail was set at $300,000.
