Riot Fest Organizers Plan to Hold All Three Days at Humboldt Park

By Victoria Johnson | February 22, 2013 9:37am

HUMBOLDT PARK — It seems Riot Fest has finally outgrown the indoor venues that have hosted the punk music festival since it began in 2005.

Organizers of the three-day fest told the Humboldt Park Advisory Council Thursday night that this year they intend to hold all three days of the late summer festival at the park.

For the first time in 2012, Riot Fest spent two of the three days at the park, reportedly attracting 60,000 people in total, but the first day was held at the Congress Theater.

In other years, shows were also held at the Double Door, Subterranean, Metro and Cobra Lounge.

Last year, the festival included a carnival with rides, games, food vendors and sideshow acts.

As in years past, organizers won't release the lineup until mid-May, though they hinted a few headliners had already been confirmed. In the past, the festival has drawn Weezer, NOFX, Dropkick Murphys, Elvis Costello, Social Distortion, The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Stooges.

Organizer Max Wagner would not comment on exact plans for the fest, scheduled for Sept. 13-15, but he confirmed plans to hold all three days at Humboldt Park.
