CHICAGO — Two women were found stabbed to death in their Chatham home after a fire broke out Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze in the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue about 3:30 p.m., a fire official said.

Curtria Duncan, 24, and Cherie Adams, 43, were both found in a bathroom with multiple stab wounds, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene at 5:35 p.m., the morgue said.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide and possible arson, a spokesman said.
