CHICAGO — One person was killed when a car struck a bridge in Hegewisch Saturday afternoon, police said.

Citing preliminary information, Officer John O’Brien, a police spokesman, said the major accident unit responded to the incident at 1:26 p.m. The one-car accident occurred near the intersection of East 130th Street and South Torrence Avenue.

It appeared the vehicle struck a concrete barrier blocking 130th Street, as it headed north. The area is closed due to road construction.
