Kiss Kiss Cabaret Hits Two Years with Burlesque Blowout

By Paul Biasco | February 1, 2013 8:35am

LINCOLN PARK — Thirteen scantily clad burlesque performers, a juggler, a magician, comedians and two hosts plan on celebrating their 100th cabaret show on Lincoln Avenue Friday night by eating cake with their audience.

Kiss Kiss Cabaret will have its entire company of about 30 performers on stage at one point or another during the two-year anniversary celebration at the Greenhouse Theater Friday night.

"It’s the big party we throw for ourselves every year,” said Chris Biddle, producer, artistic director and one of the hosts of the show. "On a given night, you will see four girls, so on this one night of the year you see the whole company."

The cabaret began a little more than two years ago when a stage act backed out of a six-week run at the Greenhouse. Biddle and Jenn Kincaid, the theater's rental manager at the time, dreamed up the Halloween-themed Peek-a-Boo burlesque show to replace it. So was born the two-hour cabaret.

Since then, the act has taken off as the twice-a-week Kiss Kiss Cabaret. Kincaid is now the show's producer and managing director.

"We just enjoyed it so much and enjoyed working to together so we said, 'Why can’t we do this every week?' " Biddle said.

The women are most excited for the chance during Friday night's show to be on the stage with the whole cast.

"It's really been a labor of love to bring it from a show that we were just putting together from scratch all the way to a production that has over 30 people in the cast," said 35-year-old Natanya Rubin, who performs as Naughty Natanya.

Rubin, who started out as a fine arts model with a degree in acting, has been doing burlesque for nearly 10 years.

"Being on stage and being able to take my clothes off combined my work life and one of my hobbies," she said.

At the end of the show Friday night, the company will blow out the candles on a massive two-year anniversary cake, which they plan on sharing with the audience.

"We see bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, birthday parties, divorce parties. If there's a reason to come out and celebrate, we’ve seen it," Kincaid said.

Tickets to the show are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
