CHICAGO — A 23-year-old Humboldt Park man was gunned down in Austin Friday morning as he was running away from his killer, police said.

Monroe Wallace, of the 3200 block of West Division Street, was running from an offender on the 3900 block of West Van Buren Street at about 7:10 Friday morning. He was shot numerous times near the intersection of Van Buren and Pulaski streets, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

He was found on the 400 block of South Pulaski Street, and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:33 a.m., the Cook County medical examiner's office said. Police are investigating the homicide and have no one in custody, Zala said.
