CHICAGO - A man spouted off a racially-charged rant on a CTA bus and threatened to blow it up as "jihad against the white devil" Monday, police said.
Caleb Russell, 23, was on a bus heading West on Chicago Avenue near Orleans Street in River North when he threatened to blow it up, police said.
The driver hit the panic button and fearful passengers ran from the bus about 6:20 p.m., police said.
Russell shouted racial slurs at both passengers and responding police officers. He told police he was "jihad against the white devil," officials said.
Russell, of the 4700 block of South Woodlawn Avenue in Kenwood, was charged with making a false bomb threat, according to police and the Cook County Sheriff's office.
He was held on $90,000 bond Tuesday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.
