CHATHAM — A Woodlawn man was shot and killed Sunday night in a possible gang-related shooting in Chatham, authorities said.

Marcus Turner, of the 6600 block of South Maryland Avenue, was pronounced dead at 8 p.m. at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Turner, 19, was walking with two men at 7 p.m. in the 8400 block of South Martin Luther King Drive when three other men emerged from a gangway toward them, said Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

The men ordered Turner and his companions to stop, and one man pulled out a handgun, Perez said. When Turner and his companions turned to run, the man began firing and hit Turner in the chest, Perez said.

The two men with Turner ran across the street while continuing to hear gun shots, Perez said.

Turner had a criminal record and was known to have gang affiliations, police said.

No one was in custody early Monday.
