WEST TOWN — Two male teenagers were injured in a shooting in West Town Tuesday, police said.

The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Chicago Avenue and North Rockwell Street, police said.

One teenager was shot in the chest. It is unknown where the other was shot, police said.

The two victims were taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Malgosia Blaczek, a resident of the neighborhood for 32 years, said she was walking her dogs down North Washtenaw Avenue when she saw two young women "sobbing" in the alley.

"Squad cars came in from everywhere," she said.

Blaczek said the neighborhood has not seen many shootings since the 1990s, but she said she noticed the neighborhood getting less safe about a year ago. She said she sees an increasing number of "gang bangers."

"It's getting worse, and it's only going to get worse," Blaczek said.
