CHICAGO — A lieutenant from the South Side has been tapped to be the new commander in the Shakespeare Police District, which covers Logan Square, Bucktown and Wicker Park, as well as parts of Avondale and Humboldt Park.

The current Shakespeare District Commander, Linda Flores, will become an executive officer for the Special Functions Group, according to a statement from the Mayor's office.

She will be replaced by Francis "Frank" Valadez, who most recently served as a lieutenant in the Wentworth District, which stretches from the Near South Side to Hyde Park.

Valadez joined the police department in December of 1986, according to the Chicago Police News Affairs Office and has received 131 awards, including two of the highest police honors — the Lambert Tree and the Superintendent's Award of Valor.

Valadez's promotion was announced Monday along with that of two other new commanders and 40 new sergeants across the city, according to the statement.

The graduation of 41 new police recruits also was announced.
