CHICAGO — A Bellwood man was charged in the killing of another man during an apparent carjacking in Austin, police said.

Timmaine P. Timerlake, 29, of the 400 block of South 24th Street in Bellwood, was charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 9 killing of 32-year-old Rene Reyna Jr., authorities said.

Timerlake and Reyna got into a physical fight about 9:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of South Austin Boulevard, police said, citing witnesses. Reyna apparently tried to break free and run away when his alleged killer pulled out a gun and shot him several times, striking him in the head, police said.

The next day, Austin District officers spotted a car wanted in the homicide and tried to pull the vehicle over when Timerlake took off running from the vehicle, cops said. Police ran after Timerlake and arrested him, and a gun was found in the vehicle, cops said.

Timerlake is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
