CHICAGO — A single charge of carrying a concealed weapon was leveled against a 17-year-old Sunday, after he was found carrying the piece at a gang funeral.

Roosevelt J. Yarber, of the 4100 block of West Van Buren Street, was found with a .44 Magnum Ruger after leaving the funeral of a known member of the Gangster Disciples at Miracle Temple Church, 4645 W. Madison St., in West Garfield Park.

Yarber, who police said has no known gang ties, was stopped along with a large group of males before he was detained, according to police reports. Police said the group consisted of five Four Corner Hustlers, and a New Breed. The New Breeds and Gangster Disciples have been in conflict in the area, police said.

A witness later informed police that he had seen Yarber hold a gun up to a nearby vehicle.

The retrieved gun was confiscated with six live rounds.

The charges come on the heels of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's crackdown on gang funerals. Emanuel has pledged to reduce violence that has marred funerals for suspected gang members by placing armed patrols around churches and funeral processions.

Yarber's bail was set at $2,500.
