EAST GARFIELD PARK — East Garfield Park residents quietly gathered to watch Tuesday as flames engulfed the second story of a brownstone on West Walnut Street.

The blaze — and responding firefighters — were part of a scene for the TV show “Chicago Fire.” The show films in Chicago and recently fooled onlookers with a plane crash in the 3100 block of South King Drive.

Christopher Taylor, 51, who lives across the street from the brownstone in the 3200 block of West Walnut, first thought the blaze was real.

“But now that I know [It was fake.], I think it’s awesome,” he laughed.

Mamie Dean, who has lived in the neighborhood for 48 years, said this is the second time she has seen “Chicago Fire” filming on her block.

“We’d be down there making faces on camera,” she said.

Adrian Alderete, 24, from Lake Forest, worked on set as an extra. Alderete said he enjoyed the work even though it’s not the most glamorous.

“Being an extra is the lowest of the low, but to be on set is pretty amazing,” he said.
