CHICAGO — A 25-year-old West Side woman was shot while trying to shield her boyfriend from her father's wrath in Austin, authorities said.

Dante White, 49, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and possessing a gun with a defaced serial number after allegedly shooting his daughter in the arm Saturday afternoon.

White had been arguing with the victim's boyfriend at his home in the 4900 block of West Quincy Street. When the 26-year-old man refused to leave, White allegedly raised a .25 caliber pistol to shoot him, but the daughter jumped between them as he fired, prosecutors said.

White then fled, ditching the gun in the garbage, but he was later arrested, prosecutors said.

The daughter was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left arm, according to police reports. The boyfriend received no treatment.

A Cook County judge set White's bond at $200,000 Sunday.
