CHICAGO — A South Loop man died early Sunday after crashing into a light pole near his home, officials said.

Jon Sanders, 38, was killed after his car crashed into a light pole in the 1600 block of South Clark Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The victim was southbound on Clark Street about 3:20 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic before crashing into the light pole, police said. He was alone in the car at the time of the crash.

Sanders, of the 1800 block of South Federal Street, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, a medical examiner's office spokesman said.

The accident is under investigation, police said.
