Urban Partnership Bank Moving to Chatham

By Wendell Hutson | November 27, 2012 3:19pm

CHATHAM — A trip to the bank will soon be a short drive for Denzil Daley, a 56-year-old carpenter who lives in Grand Crossing, now that Urban Partnership Bank will have a branch closer to him.

"That's great. I won't have to drive so far to get to the bank," Daley said. "I'm 10 minutes away from that location."

The location Daley is referring to is 7801 S. State St., which is where the community bank will open its 10th branch on Dec. 15 once the building's current tenant, Northern Trust Bank, moves out. Urban Partnership Bank (UPB) purchased the building this summer, said spokesman Brian Berg.

"We look forward to providing our new customers with exceptional service and responsible financial services that will help them build a better financial life and a stronger community," added Berg. "That's how we make a difference every day."

Julius Jackson, a minister at Christian Tabernacle Church at 4712 S. Prairie St., is another UPB customer who plans to utilize the new Chatham branch.

"I live in the Bronzeville area so I normally come here [UPB branch at 4659 S. Cottage Grove Ave.], but from time to time I am further south so it's nice to know they will have a branch right off the expressway," Jackson said.

Berg said the Northern Trust Bank name would remain atop of the three-story building until January 2013 when he expects UPB signage to be added.
