UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — After successful open-heart surgery, Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick is resting and expected to make a full recovery, his wife Michele said.
“Everything went really well. Tony is really, really tough and was really brave going into surgery given how critical the situation really was,” she said. “He’s going to be fine.”
Surgeons at St. Mary’s discovered a tear in one of Fitzpatrick’s heart valves that they were able to repair and the quadruple bypass surgery also was a success, Michele Fitzpatrick said.
On Friday, Fitzpatrick was alert while recovering in the intensive care unit.
“He was awake and I said, ‘Oh, looks like they gave you a real nice cocktail mix,’ and he smiled,” Michele Fitzpatrick said. “I’m so relieved and grateful for all the support of our friends and Tony’s family, they’re terrific and so supportive.”
