CHICAGO — Happy Friday! If it's dawning on you that it is already July, don't fret — just go outside.
Here are some things to do outside today.
1. Take your boo to see "Moonrise Kingdom": Wes Anderson movies are perfect for a Friday date night under the stars (hey, maybe it'll be clear out). It's free, so you can splurge on dinner at nearby Coast beforehand. Holstein Park, 2200 N. Oakley Ave. Movie starts at 8:30 p.m.
2. Dance to world music while sipping craft brews: Lincoln Square's Square Roots Fest kicks off Friday with a global musical lineup you won't find elsewhere. There will also be a Cajun dance lesson and more than 30 craft beer options. Suggested donation is $10 for adults, $5 seniors/kids and $20 for families.
3. Eat and drink near the beach: Like being near the lake but prefer to avoid getting all sandy? Head to Pier 31 at 31st Street beach. Kick back and have a hot dog and some beers. Don't live south? Check out our other lakefront food and drink options here. Pier 31 is open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily at 3101 S. Lake Shore Drive.
4. Go see Chicago's fave Celtic punk band: Can't wait until March to celebrate your love for all things Irish? Head to the Irish American Heritage Festival and see The Tossers for $15. There will be traditional Irish music as well as beer and food, of course. The festival starts at 6 p.m. Tossers go on at 9:30 p.m. Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N. Knox Ave.
5. Eat sausage on a roof: Head to Gene's Sausage Shop & Delicatessen in Lincoln Square. Go all the way up to the roof for sausages, pretzels, potato pancakes and lots of German beer (and sunshine). Rooftop is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (so go early!) Gene's, 4750 N. Lincoln Ave.
