CRIME BLOTTER: Man Tries to Swipe $70 in Underwear from Macy's, Police Say

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A man tried to steal $125 in underwear and shirts from Macy’s before attacking a security guard who tried to stop him, police said.

Michael Lyons, 44, tried to walk out of the store at 422 Fulton St. with the clothing just before 2 p.m. on July 6, according to a police report.

He tried to steal four pairs of underwear worth $70 and two shirts worth $55, the NYPD said.

As Lyons was walking out, he punched and kicked a security guard who tried to stop him, leaving the guard with several cuts and bruises, police said.

He was apprehended and charged with robbery, assault, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, attempted assault, menacing and harassment, prosecutors said.

Lyons is due in court on Aug. 2.

His attorney was not immediately available for comment.

Other notable crimes from the Downtown Brooklyn area, according to the 84th precinct, include:

► A 52-year-old man’s wallet was stolen while he slept on a southbound C train at the Jay Street-MetroTech stop around 3:45 p.m. on July 6, police said. 

► Four male passengers attacked a 31-year-old livery cabdriver after they got into an argument before stealing the driver’s cellphone at 1:45 p.m. on July 7 at the intersection of Nevins and Schermerhorn streets, police said.
