DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — Police have arrested a man they say whipped out what appeared to be a gun behind a reporter during a live television broadcast in Downtown Brooklyn Wednesday afternoon.

Simon Khanukov, 33, of Midwood was charged with menacing and harassment after he walked behind NBC New York reporter Michael George, 35, and pulled out what appeared to be a gun in front of the Brooklyn Supreme Court on Jay Street, the NYPD said.

The man can be seen in the video waving the gun and smiling at the camera before running off.

Khanukov was not charged with weapons possession. Police declined to say whether the gun was real.

George had been reporting on the trial of Peter Liang, an NYPD officer who fatally shot an unarmed man in a public housing stairwell in 2014.

George declined to comment Thursday.
