BOERUM HILL — Police released footage Thursday night of a man they said fatally shot and stabbed a Staten Island resident the night before near the Barclays Center.

The suspect was arguing with Steven Vargas, 47, outside a Fourth Avenue Dunkin' Donuts near Atlantic Avenue before attacking him about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The suspect then stabbed Vargas in the chest and shot him repeatedly in the torso, police said.

"There was a lot of blood. It was coming from his mouth and nose," said Ali Abdul, who works in a grocery nearby and heard the shots.

"The police came quickly. They were pushing on his chest three or four times, but I didn't see him responding," the grocer added.

Vargas, of Rosebank, was pronounced dead at Brooklyn Hospital Center, police said.

The suspect hadn't been arrested as of Friday morning, police said.

He's in his 40s and was last seen wearing a dark jacket, dark jeans, dark shoes and a white T-shirt, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
