NEW YORK CITY — The votes are in for the new ‘I Voted’ sticker.
Ballot-casters in New York, get psyched for your new subway-centric sticker, winner of this year’s NYC Votes design contest.
The winning sticker features multi-colored subway lines crossing over the “O” in “I Voted.” The image, designed by Marie Dagata and Scott Heinz of Bronxville, N.Y., won out over nine other finalists in the “I Voted” sticker contest run by the NYC Campaign Finance Board, the group announced Thursday.
Dagata and Heinz’s design won in an instant-runoff election based on online voting conducted over 10 days in late April and early May. More than 10,000 ballots were cast in the online contest, the CFB said.
Amy Loprest, Executive Director of the CFB, said the group is thrilled by the level of interest generated by the contest.
"We're hopeful that the sticker will inspire more New Yorkers to learn about the candidates in the citywide elections this year, turn out at the polls on Election Day, and show their neighbors they care about the future of their city,” she said in a statement.
The 10 finalists were chosen from more than 700 designs submitted by New Yorkers, the CFB said. The sticker will first be used at the polls in New York’s primary election Sept. 12.
This is the second “I Voted” sticker design contest held by the CFB. In the first, held in 2013, 10-year-old Zoe Markman won with her now-ubiquitous design featuring the Statue of Liberty.
