QUEENS — Home invaders chopped off the thumb of a Saint Albans man with a meat cleaver during an attack over the weekend, police said.

The chaos began when the 59-year-old victim returned to a home on 116th Road near Farmers Boulevard on April 23 1:30 p.m., police said.

He was confronted by three men and slashed on his hands and face with the cleaver, police said.

He was taken to Montefiore Hospital, where his thumb was later re-attached, police sources said.

Another 62-year-old man who was inside the house managed to escape unharmed. The suspects fled empty handed, according to police.

The exact motive for the attack was unknown, and it was not clear whether the victims and perpetrators knew each other, the NYPD said.

The attacker with the cleaver is between 30-to-40 years old, 150-to-160 pounds and was wearing a T-shirt and jeans.

The second is about 5-foot-10, with salt and pepper hair and was wearing a gray T-shirt. Police said he was armed with a gun.

The third suspect is also about 30-to-40 years old, around 5-foot-8 and 150-to-160 pounds. He was wearing black sunglasses, a black leather baseball cap and spoke with a west Indian accident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
