Philadelphia Man Arrested for Fatal Fort Greene Stabbing, Police Say

FORT GREENE — A Philadelphia man has been arrested for fatally stabbing a Fort Greene man found dead in his apartment over the weekend, police said.

David Haigh, 42, was charged by police with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing of 41-year-old James Johnson, the NYPD said.

Haigh stabbed Johnson to death in his Ingersoll Houses apartment after the two met at a nightclub, police said. He was found with multiple stab wounds to his torso and was declared dead at the 30 Fleet Walk apartment on Sunday after police received a call just after 6 a.m., the NYPD said.

Haigh was taken in for questioning from Johnson’s fourth-floor apartment and treated at a local hospital for a broken finger and a cut to one of his hands, police said. As of Tuesday, Haigh remained hospitalized and had not yet been arraigned on the charges, prosecutors said.

Johnson’s death is the first homicide this year in the 88th Precinct, which covers Fort Greene, according to NYPD statistics,
