DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — Artists can learn about affordable housing opportunities in Downtown Brooklyn through a series of new seminars launching next month.

The seminars, which will be geared specifically toward artists, will offer strategies for applying to affordable housing lotteries, as well as financial counseling.

Artists will also be connected with affordable housing opportunities in the neighborhood as part of the “Culture Forward” plan released by the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance earlier this year. The plan outlines 13 initiatives to support the arts in the neighborhood.

“Earlier this year we unveiled an ambitious blueprint for expanding Downtown Brooklyn’s status as a place where artists can live and thrive, but to make that a reality we first must make sure that our creative professionals are taking advantage of all the affordable housing that is available,” said DBP President Regina Myer in a statement.

“Hosting these seminars is one step toward addressing one of our top priorities — keeping the neighborhood an attractive and viable destination for generations of artists.”

The workshops will be hosted in collaboration with local elected officials and The Actors Fund

The first seminar will be held on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room at Borough Hall.

More seminars will be scheduled for early 2017.
