72-Year-Old Man Killed in Bronx Hit-and-Run Accident, Police Say

By Kathleen Culliton | November 17, 2016 3:33pm

THE BRONX — A 72-year-old man died after a hit-and-run driver left him lying unconscious in the middle of a Wakefield street Thursday morning, police said.

Emergency responders found the unidentified man with severe injuries to his torso at the intersection of Nereid and Richardson avenues at around 10:35 a.m. Thursday, according to police.

The investigation revealed that a black Ford had been seen driving southbound on Richardson Avenue, turning left onto Nereid Avenue and knocking the man to the ground, an NYPD spokesman said.

The driver then fled down Nereid Avenue and had not yet been located as of 3 p.m. Thursday, police said.

The victim was transported to Jacobi Hospital where he later died from his injuries, said police.

The investigation remains ongoing.
