DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A man who tried to pay for a hat at a Downtown Brooklyn shop with counterfeit money stabbed the store clerk with a box cutter when the clerk confronted him, police said.

The man, 23-year-old Pierre Azor, tried to use the fake cash at Ragga Muffin boutique at 487 Fulton St. around 7:40 p.m. on Nov. 10, according to a police report.

The clerk realized the money was fake and Azor tried to run, but the clerk stopped him, police said.

Azor then punched the clerk and stabbed him multiple times in the back with a box cutter, police said.

The clerk refused medical attention on scene, police said.

The store was closed Thursday and a manager could not be immediately reached for comment.

Azor was arrested and charged with assault, criminal possession of forged currency, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and harassment, according to a criminal complaint.

Attorney information for Azor was not available. He has no upcoming court appearances.
