DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A construction worker died after a piece of machinery broke off and hit him in the head Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Paul Kenedy, 43, from The Bronx, was pronounced dead at the 61 Bond St. site around 1:22 p.m., according to police and the FDNY.

First responders found Kenedy unconscious with severe trauma to the head and body, police said.

The incident happened while the man was drilling piles and a shackle from a machine snapped off, fell and hit the man in the head, according to an open complaint on the Department of Buildings website.

The 13-story hotel in development at 61 Bond St. is owned by Eric Bass of GFI Hospitality, LLC, the development firm behind the Ace Hotels, according to DOB filings.

GFI Hospitality representatives were not immediately available to make a statement and a woman answering the phone for the general contractor on the project, Manhattan-based Broadway Construction Group, declined to comment.

DOB representatives arrived at the site shortly after the incident to conduct an investigation, a spokesman said.
