CLINTON HILL — Burzh-wa Salon is saying au revoir to Myrtle Avenue and heading further south in the neighborhood as rents continue to rise for local businesses on the evolving thoroughfare.

Burzh-wa — spelled after the pronunciation of bourgeois — will be leaving its home at 507 Myrtle Ave. Thursday and setting up shop about a mile away at 980 Fulton St. on Oct. 4.

The salon, which has operated on the avenue for a decade, was bought out by the building’s new owner last year as its lease was set to expire, according to Kimberly Price, who owns the business with husband Michael Wade.

“I just knew that when I got to the end of my lease that I wasn’t going to pay what they wanted,” Price explained.

The salon owner said she had been renting the Myrtle Avenue storefront for $2,000 per month for the last 10 years.

These days, rental prices on the thoroughfare clock in at upwards of $7,000 per month, according to Price.

“I’m not even considering anything like that,” she said.

While Price declined to say how much she would be paying at the Fulton Street location, she said it’s reasonable considering the size of her new digs.

The newly renovated space will be nearly 900 square feet, while the Myrtle Avenue space was just shy of 700 square feet, she said.

At the new location, Burzh-wa will likely add facials to its existing list of services, which includes hair styling, manicures and waxing.

The salon will move into the former home of Samantha’s Southern Cuisine.

Price, who’s been a stylist for 26 years and used to live in the neighborhood, said she looks forward to growing her business on Fulton Street.

“It’s really a nice neighborhood and a nice area,” she said. “They’re growing just like Myrtle grew, and I’d like to be a part of that.”

The salon owner said she’d keep the bonds that made her current business strong, as well as forging new ones on Fulton Street.

“I’ll still be on Myrtle and I’ll still see all the people,” she said. “I definitely have a lot of great relationships. I’ll do the same on Fulton until I’m done.”

Burzh-wa is the second business to leave Myrtle Avenue this month.

Owa Afrikan Market left its spot at 434 Myrtle Avenue on Sept. 14 after 25 years to move to a larger space at 1666 Broadway in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
