
BROOKLYN — A man used a card skimmer to steal people's bank information and withdrew more than $13,000 from several accounts at ATMs across Brooklyn, including in Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene and Bay Ridge.
The suspect, who was captured on surveillance video withdrawing money from a Bank of America at 449 Myrtle Ave. near Waverly Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on July 14, used skimming devices to steal personal information from his victims, according to police.
The suspect started making the withdrawals on July 1 at 8 a.m., when he took out $1,386 from a 45-year-old woman’s bank account, police said.
On July 9 at around 9 a.m., the suspect struck again, using a 54-year-old man’s debit card information to take out $200 at an ATM at 7212 Fifth Ave., as well as another $200 at an ATM at 7202 Fifth Ave. in Bay Ridge, police said.
The suspect made three more withdrawals between midnight and 1:30 p.m. on July 14, when he stole $506 from a 40-year-old man, $706 from a 27-year-old woman and $1,232 from a 41-year-old woman, police said.
The next day, the man made seven other withdrawals between midnight and 6:30 p.m., stealing more than $8,000 from the accounts of victims who ranged in age between 21 and 57 years old.
The suspect made two more withdrawals on July 16 and 17, taking $909 from a 46-year-old woman and $503 from a 24-year-old man, police said.
In total, the man made off with $13,674.67, according to police.
The suspect was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, a black cap and black sunglasses.
