CLINTON HILL — A thief stole $1,000 in cash from the popular pizza joint Speedy Romeo after breaking into the restaurant earlier this month, police said.

The suspect snuck into the eatery, at 376 Classon St., through a window that was left open to fit an air-conditioning duct sometime between 4 and 5 a.m. on Aug. 6, according to a police report.

The thief was then able to get into the basement and take $1,000 and cash receipts from the three previous days that were kept in a small safe, police said.

A manager at the restaurant declined to comment on the break-in.
