CLINTON HILL —  A trio of thieves stole two expensive bottles of champagne from a Myrtle Avenue liquor store — but not before the owner managed to recover some of the bubbly, police said.

The suspects, two women and a man, walked into Myrtle Discount Liquors, at 403 Myrtle Ave., just before 7:30 p.m. on July 31 and tried to steal several bottles of liquor, the owner's daughter said.

She was in the back of the store grabbing bottles to restock the shelves when she looked at the security camera and sensed that something was off.

“I looked at the camera and they looked weird," said Gloria Kim, 42. “I told my father, ‘Watch this lady,’ because they didn’t look alright.”

Kim said she saw the man grab a $53 bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne and a $49 of Moët & Chandon champagne from a hard-to-reach shelf and hand it to one of the women, who sneaked the bottles into her bag.

The owner, Yung Kim, 74, then confronted the group and was able to snatch back three bottles of champagne that the man had stuffed into his backpack, she said.

“My father was able to rip the guy’s backpack off him,” she said.

The group ran off, but was able to get away with the two bottles of Veuve Clicquot and a bottle Moët & Chandon, the owner said.

No arrests have been made.
