Pregnant Teen Choked, Robbed by Baby's Father at DUMBO Store, Police Say

DUMBO — A pregnant 19-year-old was choked and robbed by her baby’s father while working at a DUMBO store last week, according to police. 

The 19-year-old victim, who was 16 weeks pregnant, was working at the store on Washington Street around 4:30 p.m. when Joey Levy, 18, approached her and demanded her money and debit card, according to the NYPD.

Levy grabbed her cellphone then put both hands over her neck, causing her to lose her breath, according to police. 

He then smacked her in the face with his left hand and pushed her onto a bench, police said. 

Levy took her iPhone 6 Plus and fled in a Gray Mercedes Benz C300, according to police.

Officers later caught up with Levy and arrested him, police said. 

He was charged with assault, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, harassment, attempted assault and attempted criminal obstruction of breathing, according to prosecutors.

Attorney information for Levy was not immediately available.

Other notable crimes from the 84th and 88th precincts include:

► A 35-year-old man got on a southbound F train at 57th Street around 3:45 a.m. on June 16 and fell asleep, accidentally ending up at the Stillwell Avenue station, police said. He then boarded a northbound F train to get home, but when he got out at York Street he noticed his wallet was missing and that he had $220 worth of charges on his credit cards.

► A 47-year-old taxi driver picked up five young teens in front of 111 Livingston St. at 1:30 a.m. on June 21 when one of the teens punched him in the head and another stole $30 in cash and an iPhone 5s from the cab, police said.

► A 31-year-old woman was sleeping when she was woken up by someone banging on her door in the Ingersoll Houses at 8:35 a.m. on June 26, police said. When she got out of her bed she saw a man in her living room holding her PlayStation in his hands. The man dropped the PlayStation and ran out.

► A 38-year-old woman tried to steal $1,370 worth of clothes, jewelry and accessories from Macy’s at 422 Fulton St. at 3:25 p.m. on June 26 by stuffing the items into her bag, police said.
