VINEGAR HILL — Police arrested a woman they say fatally shot a 29-year-old man in the head after he tried to stop her from firing wildly into a crowd last week outside the Farragut Houses.

Cheyenne Wright, also 29, was charged with second-degree murder and reckless endangerment for shooting Luis Villot outside the public housing complex where they both live, according to the NYPD.

The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. on June 15 after Wright pulled out a gun and started firing into a crowd of Villot’s friends, including some children, outside 192 Sands St., police said.

Villot tried to move her away from the group and stop her from shooting, police said.

Wright fired one last shot, striking Villot in the head, police said.

Witnesses told police that Wright handed the gun to her mother and the two fled in separate directions.

Villot died Saturday, three days after the shooting, at Methodist Hospital, police said.

The group that Villot was with included his 5-year-old goddaughter, according to the New York Daily News.

“He saved his goddaughter,” Villot’s twin sister Michelle Villot told the Daily News. “He died being a hero. He was telling everybody, ‘Just go! Go inside!’ ”

Wright was arrested Wednesday and is scheduled to appear in court on June 27.

Police did not say whether they were still looking for Wright’s mother.
