BROOKLYN — As the official start of summer nears, locals can beat the heat with a scoop of ice cream at one of these Fort Greene and Clinton Hill shops.

From vegan scoops to massive ice cream sandwiches, here are seven places to grab a frozen treat in the neighborhood this summer:

Greene Grape Scoops & Sweets, 680 Fulton St.

The neighborhood ice cream shop, part of the Greene Grape's Fulton Street empire, will be serving up scoops from Prospect Heights parlor Blue Marble this summer. Flavors include sea salt caramel, peanut butter chocolate confetti and banana cookie. The shop also features Fort Greene-themed sundaes like the chocolatey Fancy Fulton Fudge and the caramel popcorn-topped Salty South Portland.

► Fort Grace Local, 229 DeKalb Ave.

This former ice cream stand, which opened permanently on DeKalb Avenue in 2013, specializes in its homemade creations. New flavors like lychee yuzu and passion fruit chocolate chip debut weekly.

Fort Greene Flea, 176 Lafayette Ave.

Get scoops from Blue Marble and ice cream sandwiches from The Good Batch every Saturday at the Fort Greene Flea, located at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School.

Liberty Pizza, 482 Myrtle Ave.

Get a scoop with your slice at Liberty Pizza. Choose from half a dozen flavors including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, pistachio, mint chocolate chip, cookies and cream, and butter pecan. The pizzeria also serves a variety of classic Italian ices.

► Mekelburg's, 293 Grand Ave.

While Mekelburg's isn't a scoop shop, the craft beer bar/specialty food spot sells single-serving cups of Jeni's Splendid Street Treats. Patrons can choose from flavors like Darkest Chocolate, Ndali Estate Vanilla Bean and Salty Caramel. The store is also currently stocked with two Ample Hills flavors — "Babka Days Are Here Again" and "I Like It When You Call Me Big Babka" — but hurry in because supplies are limited.

Clementine Bakery, 299 Greene Ave.

Are you vegan, gluten-free or allergic to nuts? Then the Clementine Bakery has got you covered. The vegan bakery has a range of vegan ice cream options from New York-based DF Mavens and Chicago-based Temptation Ice cream, some of which are also nut-free, soy-free and gluten-free. The flavors change week to week, but some of the regulars include vanilla, mocha almond chip, cookie dough, mango and key lime cream. Get your fix in a cup, cone or milkshake.
