NEW YORK CITY — We may see some relief from sweaty temperatures this week — but rain is probably coming with it, the National Weather Service says.
Sun and heat will remain in the city for a couple more days and then taper off toward the weekend, said NWS meteorologist Jay Engle.
“Temperatures will be cooling down gradually this week,” he said. “As we go into tomorrow, we’re looking well into the 80s, but then by Wednesday, we’re near 80 [degrees] and by Thursday, we’re down into the mid-70s.”
But as the cooler temperatures arrive, it’s likely some showers could move in, too, making the outlook “iffy” for the weekend, Engle said. Currently, chances of rain are 30 percent on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
“Right now, it’s hard to say if it’s going to be a washout for the weekend, but it could be unsettled,” he said.
So if you didn’t get to the beach for Memorial Day, maybe plan that trip to the Rockaways for another week.
