NEW YORK CITY — On a train as short and as crowded as the G, quick access to the exits is everything to riders.
G train riders have a preference for the for seats near the doors and for perpendicular corner seats — but the most popular seat by far is located by the doors in the middle of the train, according to the thousands of readers who participated in DNAinfo New York's interactive.
In March, we asked readers to share their favorite spots on the subway, be they seats by the door or standing spots in the corner. Nearly 7,000 folks participated in the interactive so far.
Roughly 59 percent of them said they rode during the morning rush hour, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Most readers said their ride was of moderate length, as 63 percent said their commutes were between 15 and 45 minutes.
(VOTE: What's the Most Obnoxious Behavior You've Seen on the Subway?)
A seat near the center doors was the most popular seat with G train readers, picking up 7.6 percent of the vote.
► If their first choice is taken, G train riders then tended to stand near the doors. But, unlike most trains, G train riders also showed a willingness to move to the center of the train. A center standing spot actually tied for top standing spot, and overall only 30.8 percent of riders said they'd stand near the doors.
When faced with a packed train, G train riders show a willingness to move away from the doors.
