FORT GREENE — A man has been sentenced to 22 years to life in prison after he shot and killed another man two years ago outside his home at the Walt Whitman Houses in Fort Greene, according to the District Attorney’s office.

Shaquille Upson, 22, was convicted earlier this month of murder and criminal possession of a weapon for the April 2014 killing of Armal Mallory, 42, of Boerum Hill, prosecutors said.

“Keeping the residents of Brooklyn safe from senseless gun violence is my top priority,” said District Attorney Ken Thompson.

“This case shows our resolve to punish anyone who uses guns to settle scores.”

Prosecutors said Mallory was standing outside the Walt Whitman Houses near 79 North Oxford Walk around midnight when Upson shot him several times in the chest, leg and neck.

Mallory was pronounced dead at the scene.

Upson fled the scene, but was caught on surveillance video entering a nearby building, prosecutors said.

Officers found Upson, who had four sealed arrests between 2011 and 2013, two months later outside his home on North Portland Avenue after he made an incriminating Facebook post and an incriminating phone call, according to police and prosecutors.
