DUMBO — It's that time of year: Registration is now open for the DUMBO + Vinegar Hill CSA’s summer season.

Local residents can sign up for the CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture program, through April 30 to get 25 weeks of fresh, certified organic produce from Long Island-based Sang Lee Farms.

Members can sign up for a full share of weekly vegetables for $650, or a half share for $325.

The vegetable shares include about eight different varieties of vegetables.

Last year’s first full share included a bushel of scallions, two leeks, a pound of beets, a pound of potatoes, one small bushel of asparagus, a pound of carrots and a head of lettuce. Residents will get different types of vegetables throughout the season depending on what's ready for harvest at the farm.

Add-on shares of fruit, cheese, ready-to-eat meals and bread can be purchased separately from the vegetable shares, but members must purchase a full or half share of vegetables to be eligible for the fruit, cheese and bread add-ons.

The fruit share costs $250 for 18 weeks and includes berries, peaches, pears, plums and apples grown on Briermere Farm in Riverhead. Weekly shares will range from three pints of berries and a bunch of rhubarb in the early summer months, and up to six pounds of apples and pears in the late summer months.

The cheese share costs $250 for 18 weeks of cow, goat and sheep’s milk cheeses from farms on the East End of Long Island and the Hudson Valley. Members will get a different four to eight-ounce cheese each week.

The Ready to Eat share costs $25 for 25 weeks of ready-to-eat meals from Sang Lee Farms. Each week, residents will get two to four items that can include veggie snack packs with dips and hummus, stir-fry dinner packs, seasonal salads, pasta salads, quinoa salads, fresh juices, baked goods and roasted veggies.

The bread share costs $90 for 25 weeks of Long Island-based Carissa’s Breads. Residents will get one loaf of bread each week made from locally-grown grains and natural rising agents.

The summer season will run from June to November. Pickups will take place Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Phoenix House at 50 Jay Street.

Each member or family is required to volunteer for two pickup shifts totaling four hours during the summer season.

Registration runs through April 30. Members who sign up by March 15 will get a free insulated Sang Lee Farms tote bag.
