FORT GREENE — A sweet-toothed thief stole $500 worth of candy bars from a van, then threatened its driver with a knife in Fort Greene, according to police.

The 40-year-old driver parked the van at Atlantic Avenue and South Elliott Place and returned to find the rear door lock had been broken and the candy bars stolen at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 23, the NYPD said.

The driver left, then returned a short while later to find the thief back inside the van, police said.

The suspect jumped out of the van without taking anything else and the driver chased him, police said.

As he was running away, the suspect turned around and pulled out a knife, police said.

The suspect was able to get away and no arrests have been made, according to police.

Other notable crimes from the 88th precinct, according to police, include:

A man punched a 35-year-old woman in the face then stole $500 from her at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 near Classon and Lafayette avenues.

► A male suspect slapped and spat in a 15-year-old boy’s face after the 15-year-old refused to hand over his belongings at 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 near 295 Flatbush Ave. The suspect had told the boy to empty his pockets and said he had a knife on him. The suspect fled without taking anything from the boy.
