DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — Two tech-savvy thieves used Instagram to swipe more than $5,000 at gunpoint from a man who answered their social media post advertising a BMW rental, police said.

The 26-year-old man met the suspects at 189 Bridge St. in Downtown Brooklyn just after 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 to rent the 2016 BMW 650 they had advertised, according to the NYPD.

The suspects told the man to get in the car to make the transaction, and when he sat down, one of the men pulled out a gun, police said.

He then pointed the gun at the victim and said, “Do you know what time it is? Give me your money,” according to police.

The men took $5,200 in cash, the man’s driver’s license and an iPhone 6 before taking off in the BMW, police said.

No arrests have been made.

Police said the ad was posted on an Instagram account with the handle @Mula, which is now private. The victim did not know the suspects prior to the exchange, according to police.
