CLINTON HILL — Police are looking for a Craigslist scammer they say ripped off more than $2,000 in camera equipment using a fake cashier's check.

The suspect, responding to an ad on the popular classifieds site, traveled to the Grand Avenue apartment of the 38-year-old victim at about 8 a.m. on Feb. 4 to buy the equipment, which included a Canon 5D Mark II camera, a Canon camera lens, a tripod and other camera accessories, according to the NYPD

The suspect gave the man a cashier’s check for $2,117 from City National Bank and left with the equipment, police said.

The victim deposited the money into his bank account, but his bank called him later to tell him it was a fake, according to police.

Police released surveillance video of the suspect, which the victim took during the sale.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
