CLINTON HILL — Brooklynites can now get a whiff of luxury with the opening of Joya Studio in Clinton Hill.

The high-end fragrance brand, which has been producing hand-poured candles and bespoke fragrances at 19 Vanderbilt Ave. since 2006, has opened its doors to the public with a new retail space and tour series.

“The shop is open and people can get a sense of our world,” founder Frederick Bouchardy said.

Customers can now drop in to buy one of Joya’s signature candles, soaps and perfumes, along with other artisanal goods, such as handmade leather candlesticks, hand-knit Japanese baby shoes, photography books and chocolates that benefit rescue animals.

The boutique will feature brands such as Pendleton Woolen Mills, Malin + Goetz, Morris Kitchen, Apothecanna, and Parlor Coffee.

Shop prices range anywhere from $4 for a candle taper made in Africa by a women’s collective or $120 for an artist’s-series Snarkitecture candle.

Come March, customers will also be able to sign up for workshops where they will learn how to make soaps and candles, or blend perfumes.

Clients can also sign up for private fragrance consultations, where they can work with an expert to develop bespoke scents for special events like weddings or birthday parties. In just 30 to 90 minutes, skilled perfumers will whip up custom-created scents for candles, perfumes or aftershave for $300 and up.

Joya will also start giving tours of its production space, which Bouchardy says will offer a distinction between the “fancy” shop up front and the work that’s done in the back.

“We’re proud of this work, and that it’s done in New York, and that it uses local and sustainable ingredients, and that we employ New Yorkers,” Bouchardy said.

“I’m looking forward to showing what we do instead of talking about it and marketing it.”

The studio is now open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Starting in March, tours will take place on Saturdays and fragrance consultations will be by appointment only.
