BROOKLYN — South Indian restaurant Dosa Royale, known for its popular Smorgasburg stand, is opening its second brick-and-mortar location this spring in Clinton Hill.

Dosa Royale will open late March or early April at 258 Dekalb Avenue, between Vanderbilt and Clinton avenues, according to co-owner Heather Rajamani.

The menu will be similar to the one at the restaurant’s first location, which opened in 2013 in Carroll Gardens, but the addition of a grill will add more options like kebabs and katti rolls, South Indian wraps with a variety of fillings.

The restaurant will keep its signature dosas, crispy Indian pancakes made with black lentils and rice batter, as well as popular appetizers like samosas.

Rajamani, who owns Dosa Royale and Fort Greene’s Dino with her husband Thiru, said the couple had been looking to open a dosa restaurant in the neighborhood after they started selling them at the Fort Greene Flea four years ago.

“We’re really excited to be able to offer dosas year round, because at the Fort Greene market we have people that come every weekend to get dosas,” Rajamani said.

She said the new eatery will fill a gap in the neighborhood’s restaurant scene.

“There isn’t one dosa restaurant in this area,” Rajamani said. “There isn’t anyone that specializes in South Indian.”

The new Dosa Royale will also serve some North Indian street food like batata vadas, or potato fritters, although Rajamani promises the restaurant will still be “90 percent South Indian.”

Prices will remain the same, ranging from $6 to $16 for appetizers and meals.

The new spot will be cozier and feature a backyard where customers can take their food.

While the Carroll Gardens location serves several cocktails, Rajamani said the new restaurant will serve only beer and wine, including Indian brew Kingfisher.

The restaurant has applied for a beer and wine license which is up for review by Community Board 2’s health committee this Wednesday.
