EAST FLATBUSH — A 26-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested on Christmas after he shot himself in the leg, then lied to police about a drive-by shooting to explain the injury, officials said.

The man was treated for a gunshot wound to the left leg at Kings County Hospital in the early morning hours of Dec. 25, police said.

There, he told investigators he had been wounded by a spray of bullets that came from a passing car as he stood outside 755 Fenimore St. near Troy Avenue. He then took a cab to the hospital for treatment, he told police.

But investigators found five .40 caliber shell casings inside the lobby of the same building and determined the man had fired the shots himself. He was subsequently arrested for filing a false report, among other charges, police said.
