Brooklyn Teacher Nabbed for Sexually Abusing Student for Months, NYPD Says

BROOKLYN — A high school teacher has been arrested for carrying out a three-month sexually abusive relationship with a 16-year-old student, according to the NYPD.

Mervyn Affoon, 65, a business teacher at the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism in Flatbush, was arrested in Crown Heights on Tuesday and charged with sex abuse, according to police.

Investigators believe the teacher started abusing the boy in March and culminated in June, the NYPD said.

Affoon was also charged with forcible touching and committing a criminal sex against against the student, who was not old enough to give consent, according to police.

The sexual encounters took place at Affoon’s home in Brooklyn, the NYPD said.
