BROOKLYN — A woman was randomly beaten in the neck with an umbrella in a Downtown Brooklyn subway station, police said.

The 48-year-old woman was on the mezzanine of the Jay Street-MetroTech station, near Willoughby Street, about 3:40 p.m. on July 14 when another woman hit her without provocation, an NYPD spokesman said.

The victim was treated at an area hospital, police said.

The suspect, who can be seen in police photos, is about 5-foot-6 and 140 pounds with brown eyes and black hair, police said. She wore a black tank top and black sneakers.
