HOLLIS — Two people were stuck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train in Hollis early Thursday, officials said.

The male and female victims, both 29, were hit by the train that was headed from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station at about 1:46 a.m., the MTA said.

A spokeswoman for the MTA said the pair were trespassing on the overpass in the train station but it wasn't clear how they got onto the tracks.

Between 100 to 200 customers were onboard the train, which was held at the scene. They had to be transferred onto another train to make it to Penn Station, the MTA said.

Trains running on the Babylon, Hempstead and Port Jefferson lines were experiencing nearly 20 minute delays because of the accident, according to the MTA.
