FORT GREENE — The NYPD is looking for a man they say threw a firecracker into a police car, setting the vehicle on fire.

Police released a picture of the suspect they believe tossed a "consumer grade aerial shell firework" into a marked car around 3 a.m. July 5 at 487 Carlton Ave. in Fort Greene.

The firecracker set the interior of the car ablaze and had to be put out with a fire extinguisher causing "substantial damage" to the cruiser, police said.

The incident occurred while police were breaking up an unruly crowd setting off illegal fireworks,  the NYPD said.

The suspect has a thin build and short haircut and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark colored pants, according to police.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
